Wim Cops

Wim Cops graduated as Flamenco guitarist under the wings of Paco Peña at the Rotterdam conservatory. He was taught by Ricardo Mendeville, Hans van Gogh and followed masterclasses by Paco Serrano and Manolo Franco, a.o. He studied electrical guitar at “the Till”, Pop and Rock Highschool and did several international internships for classical guitar at Raphaella Smits, Bram Uten and Adrien Brogna.

Wim has cooperated with various artists like Martine Haessen (dance), Samina Carremans (“Villa Flamenco” with Federico Ordoñez and Alexander Gavalan a.o.), Elise De Vliegher (Guitarra y Cante), …

Apart from his performances as a solo guitarist, he has shared the stage with Sylvie Marie, Leonard Nolens and Veerle Philippaerts in accompanying speech.

As a composer, Wim Cops writes for solo guitar, ensemble (Alma de Lágrimas) and music for the accompaniment of short stories and poetry.

He founded Alma de Lágrimas with Ruben Appermont, with a focus on self-composed music with Spanish and South American influences.

He teaches at the academies of Dilsen-Stokkem and Lanaken.

Ruben Appermont

Ruben graduated at the Antwerp conservatory under Lode Leire. He followed masterclasses from Franco Petracchi and Thomas Martin and did jazz internships at Nicolas Thys and Piet Verbist.

As a versatile double bassist he engages in a multitude of projects. He founded Alma de Lágrimas with flamenco guitarist Wim Cops. He regularly works as a guest- and studio musician with the National Orchestra, the Flemish Opera, the Theatre House, bandoneon player Alfred Marcucci, chansonnier Charles Dumont and numerous Flemish artists. He cooperated on dozens of CDs, DVDs and TV recordings for Scala, Il Novecento, Jef Neve, various film scores and for Wim Mertens for whom he is a regular double bassist.

Ruben created several children’s music theatre productions with author Stijn Moekaars. This resulted in an particularly beautiful illustrated children’s book “TA-BOE! Stoute liedjes voor lieve kinderen” published by Clavis. As a composer, Ruben writes for orchestras, for “het Hasselts Operette Gezelschap”, double bass music, etc… He also composes miniatures for the hourly melody of Genk’s carillon and for the exclusive top cuvee “A Tempo” of Domaine Pégau at Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Ruben teaches at the Art academy of Dilsen-Stokkem and at the Brussels high school of Arts.
